Learning Objectives (Goals)

Learning Resources and Strategies (Methods)
Evidence of Accomplishment of Objectives (Documentation)
Criteria and Means for Validating Evidence (Assessment)
To define the basic content knowledge necessary for effective catechists in a PSR program I will read the National Directory for Catechesis and research the faculty development in other PSR programs to determine what effective teachers need to learn.
The development of a basic content knowledge overview, outlining the basic content knowledge a catechist should have, which could perhaps ultimately be used for training purposes.
This will be assessed initially by whether or not the overview is created, and it will also be compared against the doctrine presented in the student textbooks to see if it supports the student learning.
To define the basic pedagogical skills needed for an effective catechist in a PSR program I will read the National Directory for Catechesis and research the faculty development other educational settings use to determine what is necessary for untrained teachers to teach children and adolescents.
Prepare a basic strategy guide for catechists, outlining basic pedagogical principles and how to use them in the classroom. This could ultimately be used in training, and might also include a rubric by which PSR teachers could be assessed.
This will be assessed by whether the strategy guide is created initially, and eventually it will be assessed by observing and comparing teacher assessments, determining whether the strategies in which they are trained ultimately improve their teaching.
To plan how PSR catechists can be supported and developed during their teaching for the greatest impact on student learning To research Catechist magazine and read the National Directory for Catechesis to gather data and ideas for strategies that have helped to develop and support catechists. To develop an outline for an ongoing training system that could be used by the Director of Religious Education that could be used to support and develop catechists throughout the school year. This will initially be assessed by whether the outline is developed, and it will ultimately be assessed by a survey of teachers to determine whether they felt they received the support and development they needed.
