Order of Operations Overview

Module 1: OA.1; OA.2

Day 1:

Using Parentheses, Brackets, and Braces Separately Lesson- Students will take notes from module one flipchart as well as have practice using this concept. The homework for this lesson is Math 1-1.

Day 2:

Using Parentheses, Brackets, and Braces Separately Activity- Pass out dry erase boards and markers to every student. Using the equations on the flipchart, have the students work out each problem on their dry erase board.

Day 3:

Order of Operations Lesson- Students will be introduced to this concept by using the Math 1-2 flipchart.Students will take notes from this flipchart as well as have practice using this concept. The homework for this lesson is Math 1-2. There is also a handout for the students about order of operations PEMDAS Handout. This will help to ensure that the students learn it correctly and have it correctly in their notes.

Day 4:

Interpret Numerical Expressions Lesson-Students will be introduced to this concept by using the Math 1-3 flipchart. Students will take notes from this flipchart as well as have practice using this concept. The homework for this lesson is Math 1-3 hw.

Day 5:

Interpret Numerical Expressions Lesson- Students will continue to practice with this concept by using the Math 1-4 flipchart. Students will take notes from this flipchart as well as dig deeper into this concept and have practice using it. The homework for this lesson is Math 1-4 hw.

Day 6:

Order of Operations/Numerical Expressions Activity-Students will be split up into partners. They will be creating their own Order of Operations poster. Students will have a Order of Operations Poster instruction sheet and grading rubric. They will be using this sheet as well as their notes from the previous day to make a colorful poster. Students will also be required to create a story context with a numerical expression as an example on how to use order of operation.

Day 7:

Using Parentheses, Brackets, and Braces together Lesson- Students will be introduce this concept by using the Math 1-5 flipchart. Students will take notes from this flipchart as well as have practice using this concept. The homework for this lesson is Math 1-5 hw

Day 8:

Using Parentheses, Brackets, and Braces together Activity- Students will practice equations from the flipchart on the dry erase boards.

Day 9:

Review- Students will review Module 1 by using the Math Module 1 Review flipchart. Students will have practice completing problems from the entire module. The homework for this lesson is Math module 1 test review. This review encompasses everything that will be on their assessment.

Day 10:

Assess- I will answer any questions that the students might have prior to the assessment. The assessment is Module 1 Test A. After the students take the assessment, I will grade the assessment. All students that earned a 70% or higher will go into the enrichment group.

Day 11:

Remedial-Review Module/Enrichment-Order of Operations with Exponents

Day 12:

Remedial-Quick Review & Retake Test/Enrichment-Algebra: Variables and Expressions
