Unit Description - This unit follows our unit on manual motor controls. Each student will reinforce motor control theory, but instead of wiring physical components, the student will be build programs within a programmable logic controller. A Micrologix 1100 PLC will replace the need for a physical wiring and all circuit solutions shall be determined withing the design of the program. Student shall be given real world circuit descriptions that are to be designed and programmed themselves. The teaching method employed in this unit is termed the discovery method. The instructor does not show the students how to solve the problem, but aids and assists the student while they compose an original solution of their own design.
